About US

Our LSL Story

In April 2021, our 1-day old baby girl failed her newborn hearing screening. Soon after, she was diagnosed with severe hearing loss. As hearing parents, we were shocked, uninformed, and scared!

Doctors introduced us to Listening and Spoken Language (LSL). We decided it was the right path for our daughter. At 3 months, she began Early Intervention—led by an incredible team of ENTs, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists.

For our family, LSL is a lifestyle! It's a new way to see and hear the world—full of challenges and silver linings worth sharing. So we created Daisy Bell for parents and families who embrace LSL lifestyles for the children they love.

What is Listening and Spoken Language (LSL)?

Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) is a way to teach babies and children who are deaf or hard of hearing to speak and listen. It uses hearing technology (such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices) and spoken language therapy.

When hearing loss is detected early, LSL may help children develop language capabilities comparable to their hearing peers.

At Daisy Bell, we learn and practice LSL strategies as parents, but we're not clinicians. To learn more about LSL from a professional perspective, see our below article with links to websites in the LSL professional community:

What Can I Find at Daisy Bell?

Daisy Bell is a parental take on LSL—how we put  strategies into practice on a day-to-day basis. We talk about toys and gear, routines, family, play, doctor's visits, and more.

We chose LSL for our daughter, but we respect the decisions other parents make for their deaf or hard of hearing children—including ASL.

Newly Diagnosed?

We remember how overwhelmed we felt when we first got our baby's diagnosis. Things happened quickly!

Dozens of appointments, tests, questions from family,  medical terms to learn, and lingering uncertainty about our baby's future—all on top of the job of being a new parent.

We wish we knew then that it was the start of an incredible journey that would make our family closer and stronger. So we gathered some relevant articles for you under our "welcome" tag.
